After finishing just short of Premier League glory once again, Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta have wasted no time revamping Arsenal’s squad for the 2025/26 season. The Gunners have already landed their top midfield target and are pushing hard to reinforce other key areas. With Champions League football guaranteed and expectations rising, the summer business at the Emirates is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious under Arteta’s tenure.

Confirmed Signing: Martin Zubimendi – £51 Million

Arsenal have officially secured the signature of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in a deal worth £51 million. The 26-year-old Spanish international joins on a five-year contract and is expected to slot directly into the defensive midfield role.

Zubimendi made 34 La Liga appearances in the 2024/25 season, averaging 2.3 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, and 90% passing accuracy per game (FBref). His intelligence on and off the ball and calm distribution make him an ideal anchor behind Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard. Arsenal hope Zubimendi’s arrival will give the team more control in big matches, especially away from home—something that proved costly last season.

“Zubimendi has everything we want in a modern pivot,” Arteta told Arsenal Media. “He’s tactically aware, technically gifted, and a real leader.”

Konstantinos Karetsas – £37.8m Deal Close

The Gunners are closing in on an agreement to sign 17-year-old Konstantinos Karetsas from Genk. The attacking midfielder is considered one of Europe’s top teenage talents and could become the most expensive 17-year-old in football history.

In the 2024/25 Belgian Pro League, Karetsas contributed 3 goals and 4 assists in 39 matches (Transfermarkt). He also became the youngest player ever to score for Greece at the senior international level earlier this year. The plan is to loan him back to Genk for one more season to continue his development.

Striker Search: Arsenal’s New No. 9

With Gabriel Jesus struggling for consistency and Kai Havertz continuing in a hybrid role, Arsenal are actively pursuing a clinical striker. Three names dominate the shortlist:

Benjamin Šeško – £59m Release Clause

The 21-year-old Slovenian forward enjoyed a breakout campaign at RB Leipzig, scoring 17 goals in all competitions and adding 5 assists (Bundesliga.com). His blend of physicality, pace, and finishing has impressed Arsenal scouts. Talks are progressing, and Arsenal could activate his £59m release clause before competing suitors step in.

Alexander Isak – 21 Premier League Goals

Isak remains a long-time target for Arteta. After bagging 21 goals in the 2024/25 Premier League season for Newcastle (PremierLeague.com), the Swedish international’s stock has soared. However, Newcastle’s financial situation is complex due to PSR regulations, which could either force a sale or price him out altogether.

Viktor Gyökeres – 63 Goals in 2 Seasons

Sporting CP’s star striker has been on fire, with 63 goals in 62 league games since moving from Coventry City (Liga Portugal). At 26, Gyökeres offers more experience than Sesko and is a more natural fit as a lone striker. The only concern remains his high release clause—reportedly above £80m.

Veteran Midfield Option: Joshua Kimmich (Free Transfer?)

With Thomas Partey and Jorginho expected to leave, Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, whose contract expires this summer. Now 30, Kimmich brings Champions League-winning pedigree and versatility in midfield and right-back roles. Barcelona, PSG, and Liverpool are also interested, but Arsenal’s project and Premier League status could be a key draw (The Athletic).

Backup Goalkeeper: Joan Garcia Out of The Picture

Arsenal were evaluating Joan Garcia, Espanyol’s No. 1, as a potential backup to David Raya. The 23-year-old has kept 15 clean sheets in 38 matches in the Segunda Division and is being tracked by multiple La Liga clubs (AS.com). However, Barcelona have scooped him up for £25 million on a five-year deal. As per Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have been informed of a £5 million release clause for Kepa as the potential backup and initial talks have taken place.

Final Thoughts

Arsenal are making aggressive, calculated moves in the 2025 transfer window. With Zubimendi already secured and more elite talent on the way, Arteta’s side is looking to go one step further next season. Whether they land a star striker or add experience like Kimmich, the Gunners are clearly building for a Premier League title—and sustained European dominance.
